STATEMENT
Limited Time 2009 - a series of Fuji Instax arranged in sequences of five, each titled with their unique global location, for instance 13o 12' 54" N, 59o 31' 29"
Within these groups, a filmic 'time lapse' process is evident, as the seconds spanning each capture provide tiny, almost imperceptible variations. In some, the sun has burned a hole into the image, submitting the vulnerable chemical composition to a greater force. Others, at first glance, seem to simply depict the 'exotic'. Transforming the subject matter of palms, an accepted symbol of wealth, faith and passage, Bailey shows us the constant that is change.
Employing the palm tree as organic totem, here Bailey engages the medium of Fuji Instax image capture to enhance, as well as echo the consequence of a manufactured change of state. For both palm and photographic medium alike are locked-in to an inevitable path of erosion and decay. In essence, Limited Time is an installation - the temporal located within the perishable, framing a corpus of impermanence.
As the umbrella title suggests, Limited Time highlights a certain ephemeral vulnerability - by which both subject and object are fused within a parallel, biodegradable chronology. Critically, the image's chemical tableau is hostage to its own genetics.
